Show Statement from the Artist:
"Lys Santamaria is a multidisciplinary artist celebrated for her meticulous craftsmanship, transforming tiny beads, glass, and fiber into vibrant jewelry, sculptures and public art. Her mission is to bring more joy and healing to the world through her art.
Born in Colombia and raised in Canada and the United States, Santamaria’s work serves as a vehicle for sharing her unique voice as a Latina, a woman and an immigrant—offering viewers a reflection of their own experiences and providing solace to those who share a similar story. By channeling the power of color, Lys aims to create deep and lasting imagery that evokes joy and contributes to a more inclusive, loving and interconnected world.
Santamaria's work has been featured on Good Morning America, Austin Monthly, and on the front page of the Austin American-Statesman. Her art has been exhibited at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, the National Museum of the American Latino at the Smithsonian and is held in the permanent collection of the Mexic-Arte Museum.
The cyanotypes featured here are a part of a series called Nuestras Manos, featuring the hands and stories of over 200 Latinos in Austin."
