Show Statement From the Artist:
" Long condemned in legend as the betrayer of her people, La Malinche is reimagined here as the one betrayed. Traded like treasure by the very men who named her traitor, she embodies the paradox of survival in a world that reduced her to currency. Her gold skin gleams as both prize and burden, while the knife in her back reveals where true treachery lay. Donning her Tejana, she stands not as a symbol of shame but as a witness to the violence of conquest and the silencing of women’s agency. In this work, La Malinche rises from the shadows of history, her story reframed as one of resilience, complexity, and stolen power."
