Show Statement From the Artist:

" Genomic selection is a tool we as humans have emplored our scientists to utilize to identify favorable traits. Scientists use these markers in crops and animals alike to predict Genomic Estimated Breeding Values (GEBVs). Unlike GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms), which involve direct, laboratory-based transgenic DNA insertion (transgenics), GS identifies favorable existing genetic variations faster than traditional breeding, and without alteration.
We as humans have always utilized this process. Our first garden came with it our first Genomic selection. We liked a flower so much, when we moved, we took it with us. With new winds came new pollination, and new seeds falling on new earth. We were the first to purposely choose to select, move and alter nature, thousands of years ago.
We now sit in a crux in our own evolution, wherein our decided Genomic selection is rendering inert, based upon geography and social and environmental climate. So much so that the government is trying to figure out how to intervene in order to maintain population efficacy. What will be their next move, and how will it affect the next generation of women?"
